This artwork was by far my favorite piece. Jackie is inspired by Jaqueline “Jackie” Kennedy Onassis. It is a pillbox hat made only out of pills. I loved her iconic pink Chanel suit and wanted to recreate some sort of aspect of that while also maintaining the theme of addiction. In the 1950’s American women were forced on antidepressants and were mistreated. The pills themselves are meant to symbolize the abuse that women underwent.
I wanted to make a cage out of cigarettes to symbolize how addiction traps people. I made my own cigarettes out of paper and filled them with air-dry clay to make them look realistic. Putting the top of the cage on was a struggle as well because a new dome shape was being introduced and didn’t exactly fit perfectly. I made a hexagonal shape out of air dry clay to provide the structure something to sit on.
